Firstly, 1. What prompted you to start this co-authored project?

Originally, I wanted to create a book that focused on listening skills. While I was already disseminating a lot of information through seminars and paid newsletters, I felt somewhat unfulfilled with the idea of re-editing those contents. I wanted new perspectives, intrigue, and approaches. Then, at the beginning of 2023, ChatGPT came onto the scene, and it was exactly the freshness I was seeking.

In the course of my interactions with ChatGPT, what particularly impressed me was its listening skills. Specifically, I felt that its ability to sincerely take in what the other person is saying was outstanding. Drawn by this listening ability, I found myself naturally starting to interview ChatGPT. I wanted to show this genuine exchange to others as well, so I chose 「listening skills」 as the theme for the book. As a result, ChatGPT contributes to this project as an expert in listening.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while advancing this project? And how did you overcome that challenge?

Potential challenges could include various aspects such as content structure, the quality of dialogue, and the appeal to the target audience. Technical issues and schedule management can also present challenges. If there were any particularly difficult points or experiences where you significantly changed the direction midway, I would like to know the details.

Regarding the structure, I received various suggestions from ChatGPT. The algorithm generates a general table of contents, so thinking about how to turn that into an original table of contents was, in retrospect, a challenging point. In the end, it’s a dialogue, so the process was enjoyable, much like Jazz, which is created improvisationally. Therefore, if we were to create it again now, it would probably turn out differently.

Incorporating improvisation, much like Jazz, into book creation is a very interesting approach. Indeed, the dialogue format has dynamics that change moment to moment, so even if you discuss the same theme multiple times, the result will always be different. Focusing on the originality of the structure will likely increase the value provided to the readers.

The theme of the book is 「listening skills,」 and within that context, ChatGPT plays a role in 「enhancing humanity,」 as reflected in the title. Conversations with ChatGPT also serve as a testing ground for the user’s own listening and communication abilities. No matter how advanced AI becomes, its utility largely depends on the skills of the user. I believe that listening and empowerment skills will be crucial in future society, and in that regard, I take pride in the fact that this book is timely and relevant.

Collaboration with others, contributions, and mental flexibility have all increased, and the process of self-inquiry has also become richer. Furthermore, as my listening skills improved through the learning process, both my ability to absorb knowledge and to communicate it have grown. This is precisely the essence of 「enhancing humanity」!
