Don’t be a wonderer. Don’t wonder away you precious time. Take control of the miscellaneous in your life!

Client: What’s the difference between doing things randomly and doing things on the spur of the moment? I’m wondering how to spend my spare time.

Me: I have a lot of routines. In the space between those routines,し I have other plans, such as helping out at my parents’ house or having lunch with friends.

Client: So the routine is the main part. How much time do you have in between?

Me: Today I had 2 hours to have lunch with a friend. Yesterday I spent about 3 hours cleaning my parents’ house and the rest of the time I was learning English, giving sessions, going to the gym and blogging. In the past, I didn’t take many lessons because it took me 5 hours to write a blog.

Client: I don’t have a set routine, I know what I have to do, but I don’t feel like I have a balance. So I feel like my day is random.

Me: I feel that having a fixed schedule, a routine, has helped me to make better use of my spare time.

Client: First of all, it seems to be necessary to reconsider a routine.

Me: Yes, that’s right. Have you ever read the book “The Daily Routine of Geniuses”? It’s about artists and writers who have boring routines every day. It’s a book about the not-so-fun routines of creative people. When I read that, I thought that’s what I’m going to be like. Van Gogh decided to paint from nine to five. The author said, “the greats wondered how to make the most of their time, how to spend it, how to be creative and productive so that they could do their best work.

Client: I understand the difference between doing things randomly and doing things on the spur of the moment. When I suddenly have time to do something, time passes while I’m thinking about what I’m going to do. Then I feel like I’ve had an unfulfilling day. Should I include all the miscellaneous things I do in a routine?

Me: For example, cleaning. On Tuesdays I wash the sheets, on Saturdays, I scrub the floor.

Client: Do you ever break any of the routines you set?

Me: No, not really. If I forget to take the sheets off and go to bed, I think “Today is wash day!” and I get out of the bed.

Client: Do you think “No, I’ll do it next week.”

Me: That would be uncomfortable to sleep on. Worst case scenario, I change it the next morning.

Client: That’s the Hitomi difference.

Me: It’s a battle of the small things. It’s very important to keep a promise to myself, isn’t it? That’s what 1D1U thinking is all about.

Client: I’ll reconsider the gold and silver sheets for the 1D1U routine!
