Even forward thinkers can benefit from looking back. What fine wines will find in the forgotten corners of your past self.

I went pale. I was trying to set up WordPress on a domain I wasn’t using. Then I couldn’t view the booklet, like Quesley’s 1000 questions that I have been uploading online for over 10 years.

However, when I thought about it calmly, it was obvious that I had changed my nameservers to WordPress. I searched a lot to understand how it works, and was able to recover it the next morning.

Everything happens for a reason. Although depressed, I ventured into the admin area of my server and in my ‘book-cellar’ I found a store of many booklets that I had written in the past. Even the ones I thought were already space dust.

I clicked on 「Guardian angel」 in the contents.

Ice breakers in an English conversation school.

Me: We were on a family holiday at the weekend.

Instructor: What did you find most interesting?

Me: I’m interested in what my niece does, what she talks about. And it’s always fun to think about what I should say to her.

Instructor: Why is that?

Me: In my coaching sessions, I am acutely aware that there are quite a few adults who have had hurtful experiences as children. The beliefs they made there have limited their potential and made them afraid to act. So, what adults say to children is very important for their development!

Instructor: I see.

Me: For example, if a child is crying, someone might say, 「Don’t cry like that,」 or 「Why are you crying?」 But I once asked her, 「How can you stop crying?」 Then I found out why my niece was crying, so I gave her what she wanted, and she stopped crying.

Instructor: If you say, 「Don’t cry,」 that means No, right? That’s what adults generally say. For your niece, you are a guardian angel.

And I learned the difference between Looking after and Looking out for. What I do to my niece is 「Look out for」, what parents generally do to their children is 「Look after」 and ‘Lookout for’ means make sure something is OK.

I think I write better when I’m in trouble and exploring. Well, which wine should I try next?
