A hairdresser can change your tasting food! From mushroom-cut to mushroom-lover.

My second niece’s hair seems to explode every morning. So her grandma suggested that she should get it cut once, by a charismatic hairdresser. And so, as her aunt, I decided to take her to Mr. Yutaka Kanai, my mentor and a legend in the beauty industry.

She said, “My friends tell me my hair looks like a mushroom. I’m going to leave it completely up to him!” on the train to Daikanyama. She seemed a little nervous.

Looking back, 17 years ago, I went to the charismatic hairdresser for the first time. I felt sorry for my previous hairdresser who had also been with me for a long time, but once I got to know a legend in the beauty industry, no doubt everyone wanted to get their hair cut by him.

I left it entirely up to the charismatic hairdresser. I got nervous but full of hope. Then I found myself in the mirror with short hair, which I had never seen before. My hair color turned from black to three colors with a Californian flair.

At that moment, I seemed to have opened a door that lead to another dimension. Overwhelmed by the aura of the charismatic hairdresser, I took a two-shot photo of the precious moment and used it as a lucky charm. And somehow, he became a mentor and invited me, an apparel shop manager, to another dimension, as an entrepreneur.

Seventeen years later, who would have imagined a future where my 11-year-old niece would go to the same salon? I was three meters away, filming my niece’s hair being cut from a distance. His movements are clean and sharp. The appearance is luxurious.

It took about an hour to cut it, even though she was in primary school. Mr. Kanai also said, “I was serious about the cut!” Seeing her new self in the mirror, she said, “I’m so happy”. She seemed to be more sophisticated now. It’s a drastic change at a plastic surgery level! I took two shots of her with him. To be able to experience a charismatic hairdresser at primary school, Lucky her!

My niece said she wanted to go to Shibuya Hachiko, the famous statue of a dog. She finally made her Shibuya debut. We arrived in front of Hachiko, but she was too embarrassed and refused to take a photo. So I took a selfie with her. And speaking of Shibuya, there is the scramble crossing. Walking diagonally across the street is the best way to experience Shibuya’s scramble crossing. We could see Shibuya 109; a famous fashion building for the young. My niece said, “I want to go into 109 too!” The view she was watching on YouTube was now unfolding before her eyes. She is only 11 years old, so she felt like she was floating. After the moonwalk-like tour of 109, we had dinner at the restaurant nearest my parents’ house.

Her grandma, grandpa, sister, and brother were waiting. Her new hairstyle was a big hit. What she usually orders the ”Black Black Hamburger stake”, was served. And then my niece made an unexpected discovery.

”I experienced a lot of firsts today, somehow, for the first time, mushrooms tasted good,” my niece said with a twinkle in her eye. The charismatic hairdresser had even changed her sense of taste. It seems that my niece has also opened the door to another dimension.
