Shadowing like a robot.
Let’s focus on focusing with each other help. It’s better together.
The other day, for the 1D1U Uniters project, there was an exercise session, but as I had just done some exercises in the gym, I just played the sound and video. While everybody was doing the exercises, I was able to focus on my work. It’s an interesting effect.
By the way, there was a YouTube video of a student from Tokyo University streaming a “10-hour live study session”. These days, there are so many work videos like that. There’s something about working with someone that makes focusing on work easier. It’s the online age!
Then it suddenly hit me. I thought I’d share my daily Callan lesson with Uniters as a working video. When I announced it to Uniters, many of them wanted to see it.
The reason why I decided to share it is to show 「 the state of no ego.」 And I thought it would be very suitable for work use, as I repeat what the teacher says like a robot.
As a test, I recorded it on Zoom, so I’ll give you a live report in this newsletter.
At 10 am, Hitomi set up her tripod in front of her standing desk and set her iPhone at eye level. She accessed the online school website and her teacher.
“Hello, Hitomi! Good morning! Welcome back to my class. It’s good to see you again! How are you?”
“Pretty good!”
“All right, That’s good to hear. So this morning, we..”
A short greeting. The lesson starts immediately. The textbook is closed and the lesson is held only on the online screen.
Hitomi does not move a muscle. I think she is trying not to make any unnecessary movements so that she doesn’t miss listening to anything. She is shadowing like a robot.
Oh, she misheard to one word. The teacher followed up. She corrects it immediately and moves on.
It seems that there were only three corrections made and that the review was finished in 13 minutes.
The new lessons are going very well. She stands erect and immobile. Not even a hand touches her face. She looks very focused and she even looks relaxed. According to her, she has already been looking up words, listening to the Callan lesson audio beforehand, and shadowing. The earlier she starts, the less time and money she wastes, and the more time she has. So she doesn’t blame herself for not being able to do it.
The last five minutes of the lesson were spent reviewing the previous lesson, she is opening her textbook and reading it aloud. It was a quick 25 minutes!
