Ticket to our learning journey
Let’s spring-clean your brain to teach someone something. One must first tidy it up in one’s brain. It’s a kind of mental housework that allows a fresh breeze to blow through. Let’s declutter the mind and free up some storage space for new ideas and skills.
Recently I added another slash in my description. It’s tutoring. I resumed studying English 10 years ago in the hope that one day I would be able to teach my niece. If I had not started studying English 10 years ago, teaching would have been impossible. When I teach math, I have to recall first, and usually, my niece finishes solving problems while I am remembering.
Besides, I’m learning in a new way now. I couldn’t listen to natural-speed English because I wasn’t speaking it with that pronunciation. I never had that kind of training when I was a student. So after a year and a half of daily Callan lessons as an adult, that problem was solved.
While teaching junior high school English to my niece, it is a review for myself and I also feel the need to learn new knowledge to teach her. For this reason, I watched YouTube videos such as “Junior High English Conquered in 60 Minutes”. Students today have the opportunity to be taught by people other than their school teachers, so they can learn dozens of times faster than when I was a student. Now, even adults can benefit from such an era and should continue to study because it is more to the point and understanding is faster than when we were children.
In this way, I find that when I begin to learn to teach, my absorption is better. If I don’t teach correctly, the student will learn incorrectly, and with that comes responsibility. I watch a lot of videos for this reason, so I have more time to study too.
A “hobby” is for oneself, but it’s more powerful with the goal of “teaching in mind.” This is because you are looking at the goal beyond the goal, and the goal becomes a point of the passage.
In my opinion, “teaching” is not just about teaching what is correct and what isn’t. It teaches how to learn and how to use intuition. Simply reading a question without saying it out loud and answering a fill-in-the-blank question does not lead to listening or speaking skills. I was like that. It is also necessary to be able to detect words you don’t know from words you do know, which is, so to speak, a survival skill. Even if you don’t know it, you may have a chance to understand it if you look at the whole picture. So I ask the question. When the student can guess the answer in this way, they feel more confident.
Thanks to the new output of “teaching,” my daily efforts have become even deeper. And I think everyone who teaches seems to enjoy it. My young online English teacher also shared with me the joy of teaching.“Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your learning journey, it’s an honor to guide and support you in your academic pursuits.”
What the teacher delivered not only made a student happy but also led to the happiness of the other person beyond that. Now that we have come to know such a shape of happiness, our journey of learning will continue.
