To beyond the door of No!
Let’s “What if…?” your way to a new you!
A client told us in 1D1U spin-off 11 about the changes in her 90 days of coaching. Looking back, I could categorize the mind growth into very clear steps and I would like to share them with you.
At the beginning of her session, she had low energy and was not sure what she wanted to do. I suggested, “Since you speak Chinese, why don’t you teach Chinese?” “No, no, no, no. My grammar is not good enough”, she replied immediately.
Instead, she talked only about other people’s problems at work that she couldn’t help. I said to her, “You are talking like that because you are bored. Why don’t you start doing something you like?” I suggested.
She started at Stage 1, Start doing “what I love.”
Then, I gave her the challenge to watch a movie every day until the next session, and she did it for 26 days in a row. She became a fan of Colin Firth. She kept on going, traveling to Sri Lanka, going to concerts, and experiencing the feeling of being fulfilled by doing what she loved.
One day we were talking about “What else is new?”, and at that time, she was following her mother’s erhu practice every week as a Chinese translator. So I asked her, “Aren’t you going to take erhu lessons? “ She replied, “No, no, no, no! but other students often say the same thing. Why don’t you play the erhu? But I stubbornly refuse to do so.”
So I asked the key question to open the future door to her, “What would happen if you took erhu lessons?”
For the first time, she seemed to have gone beyond “the walls of No” in her mind.
”My mother has an erhu which doesn’t have a serial number, so she can’t go on foreign performance trips. But if I start, my mother will be able to go on overseas performance trips.”, she said.
After that session, she told her mother that she was thinking about playing the erhu. A few days after, she told her mother that she decided to do it, and her mother said, “Oh, yes. I’ve already ordered a new erhu! “
The client went on to Stage 2, “Start doing something that I neither liked nor disliked.”
And a few months later, her mother’s dream of going on a performance tour of Spain came true!
To be continued…
